Rev. Peter Perry, Pastor
Pastor Peter came to First United Methodist Church of Olympia in July 2014. A United Methodist pastor since 1985, Peter served congregations in Arizona and Alaska before being appointed to Olympia. Peter says coming to the Pacific Northwest is his Goldilocks story after his previous times in Arizona and Alaska. "The first place was too hot. The second one was too cold. But this is is just right!"
Peter says, “I think the most important part of being a pastor is to love the congregation and help the congregation to fall in love with God’s creation. The scriptures remind us that God loved the world, that the creation is good, and that loving and being loved is the very best way to experience and share God’s love. So the message I share most often with the church is the simple but profound message that Jesus offers to his disciples, “Love one another.”
Beyond the call to serve as a pastor, Peter's passions include photography, gardening, and exploring the beauty of God's creation. Peter's undergraduate degree is from Cal State Fullerton and his master's in divinity is from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA.
