In the Spring of 2015, a group of volunteers from First Olympia UMC participated in an amazing opportunity to learn about another culture and help our brothers and sister in Nicaragua. We worked through the Council of Protestant Churches of Nicaragua or CEPAD, a well-regarded organization that is focused on sustainable community organization, agricultural and environmental issues and family support. The group of eleven traveled from May 16-24 to Carazo, which is approximately 100 km southwest of Managua.
The Adult Mission trip to Nicaragua in 2015 is just the most recent example of this important life-changing ministry. Our adult mission teams travel out of the nation about every other year. In addition, our youth ministry mission programs include annual mission travel to ares within the Pacific Northwest region and a quarterly trip beyond the borders of the United States.
Mission travel is an opportunity to dedicate our time and resources to helping others while witnessing the ways God is at work among other cultures. God is already in the places we visit, and when we go we learn that the wideness of God’s love is truly immense.
Our Nicaragua Mission Trip will be the week of April 28-May 5. We have started planning for the trip and our auction, which will be January 21st and 28th. Our group is limited to 12 people, but we anticipate having a few spaces for members of other United Methodist Churches after October 15.
