Summer at First Olympia

with No Comments

poppoesSummertime. Sunshine, warm weather, traveling, taking it easy. Summer is a glorious season for rest, reflection and spending time with our loved ones. While some of our usual Sunday morning offerings go on hiatus over the summer, here are some great summer-specific opportunities to be aware of:

All Ages BIble Study

In addition to FaithLink (which meets throughout the summer) we are offering an All Ages Bible Study. Each week will be a dialogue-based, hands-on study of the scripture readings for the day. It will be an excellent intergenerational opportunity and we hope to see many of you there! Beginning July 3. Each Sunday @10am in the Gathering Place.

Church members gather on weekday mornings to glean (collect/harvest) produce that is then given to the local foodbank. This is a longtime tradition at First Olympia and the importance of gleaning is attested to in Scripture “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. ‘” (Leviticus 23:22) For more information, contact the church office.

Take Home Sunday School Kits

If you are going to be traveling, pick up a take-home kit from the narthex or the church office before you go! Each kit includes a double-sided sheet of paper with ideas and suggestions for how to engage in faith at home (or abroad) based on the sermon/Scripture of the week as well as supplies to get you started. There will also be special themed kits for car rides, beach trips, camping trips and more. Kits will be available July 3.
